Half-Year Project Pan 2020: Update #1

It has been a month since I introduced this project, and I am happy to report that I have somewhat positive things to say in this update. If you missed my introduction to this project, check out this post where I set out the mechanics for this project pan and the items that I initially brought in.

In the Philippines, where I reside, we are still under “community quarantine”, of which only the level has been changing, so I haven’t really been going out. However, I did make an effort to use my products more, so that on the off chance I do go out, I feel put together and ready to face the outside world. I have also been using my skincare and makeup products more often regardless, as I have been finding that, as mentioned just now, it helps me feel put together and ready to face the day, and it also gives me a routine. I have been really struggling in this department, and this helped a bit. For example, I’d change my clothes after waking up and then put on some makeup, and this will spur me to do my skincare routine at night, because I need to take that makeup off. It feels weirdly unnecessary and roundabout, but as someone who almost had no skincare routine prior to that, it really helped. Something about it just helps to wire my brain better, and I am not going to discount the positives it brought to me.

All of that is to say that because of all that, I am pretty happy with where I am at right now. Let me go by item first, because, spoiler alert, I’m actually going to be rolling one out!

1. The Saem Eco Earth Power Tone Up Sunscreen SPF 50+PA++++

Goal: Use it up

I am going to start with the sunscreen first because I’ll be referring to this when I talk about the next item, and because I apply it first anyway. I am really pumped about my progress on this one, as I have been using it fairly regularly in the last month. I think you can see it in the pictures, even if it doesn’t look like such a dramatic change. If I continue at my current pace, I do think I can finish this up by the end of the year.

2. Smashbox Photo Filter Powder Foundation in shade 01

Goal: Use it up

It also isn’t a dramatic change, but I can see a very slight expansion of the pan I have in this product. I haven’t been using it exclusively, as I still try to rotate all the powders I have, but I have been using powder quite regularly, so this has gotten quite some use as well. Also, I have been trying to flatten the other part of the pan instead of expanding the pan. Basically, I use powder to “set” my The Saem Sunscreen mentioned above, because I don’t like how it feels on my face without anything else. Thus, using my project pan sunscreen has ensured that I regularly use powders, one of which is this one. I don’t think I can finish this by the end of this project, but I think I’ll be okay with that, and I still want to go as far as I can with this powder in this project pan. Maybe I’ll prove myself wrong, who knows?

3. Blistex Bliss Flip in Ultra Moisturizing

Goal: Use it up

Ok, I just found the proper name of this lip balm (it was just “Blistex lip balm” in my intro post, which I will have to update ahaha), but that is because I just received this as a gift and it wasn’t in the packaging when I got it, so I didn’t see any name on the actual item. I think I already discovered this but somehow failed to write it in my intro post, and just wanted to have it posted at the time. Anyway, enough rambling about that, let’s go to the actual update. The angle of my update picture is a bit different from the intro picture, so it doesn’t quite clearly show if progress has been made. I have, however, been using this lip balm more regularly, so there is definitely progress, even if it is not evident. I am unsure, albeit still hopeful, that I can finish this by the end of the year.

4. KJMCosmetics Lip. Cheek. Tint in Dolled

Goal: Use 4 times
Status: Used 2/4 times

I am a little annoyed at myself right now. I am pretty sure I have used this three times already, but when I checked the tracker in my planner, it’s still at two uses. I kind of remember using it a third time, thinking I only have to use it one more time and I can roll it out, and making a mental note to mark it down in my planner, but now that said third mark is not in my planner, I am doubting myself. I am going to play it on the conservative side and keep it tallied at two uses, which means that if I really used it three times already, I just lost that one use /cries. Anyway, that isn’t much of a loss, since the point is to use this product more, and what is one possible extra use? That just works to my benefit in the scheme of things. Ah, but a part of me is really annoyed ahahaha! But what am I even griping about, I’m just glad to have been using this product at all, and surprisingly, this isn’t my least used product in this bunch. I think there’s a good chance that I’ll be able to hit my goal this month, so hopefully I’ll be able to do it, AND mark it in my tracker!

5.  Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Blackhead Out Balm

Goal: Use 4 times
Status: Used 1/4 times

I thought I’d use this more than the lip and cheek tint, but here we are. I did get to use it I think within a week of posting the intro post, but after that I keep forgetting to reach for this before I wash my face or get into the shower. It’s just not intuitive for me. There was also a time that I did remember it, but my face felt a bit too sensitive at that particular time so I played it safe and didn’t use it. Hopefully I’ll be able to use it more this coming month.

6. Detail Make Over Lip Scrub in Honey Almonds

Goal: Use 4 times
Status: Goal successfully reached! Rolling out!

I saved this one for last, because this is the most exciting one! I reached one of my goals! I thought that I’ll struggle with reaching for this product, but this is where the current situation actually worked to my benefit (in this project). Because we now have to wear masks when we go out, I’ve been going back to my liquid lipsticks (all three of them ahaha so many), and have included them more frequently in my lippie rotation, especially now that I have been also wearing makeup more regularly. I tend to reach for this lip scrub when I’m removing my liquid lipsticks, and I’ve been able to remember and use this even though outside of the usual order in my night skincare routine, so that helped. I’ve actually used this one extra time by this update, so that to me is a good sign. I thought of rotating this out and then back again once I reach another goal, but with how I’ve been able to incorporate it into my routines nowadays I think I might be able to use it more when it’s not in the project, hence, unless I neglect it too much again, I’ll be rolling it out without thinking of bringing it back in this particular project pan. I hope I’ll use it up by the end of the year, but at the moment I don’t feel the need to use my project pan to achieve that.

New Product

As I’ve mentioned in my introductory post, this is a rolling project, so whenever I reach a goal, I’ll roll a new product into the project in its place. Since I reached my goal with the lip scrub, I’ll be doing that now. Below is the new product I’ll be rolling in:

Bio Marine by SeaofSpa Labs Delicage Peeling Mask

Goal: Use twice

Hello, old friend. This was featured in last year’s project pan, and is one of the two products to have the honor of having pretty much no progress to show by the end of the project. To be honest, this product is old, but I checked it and it still smells fine, and I still keep it in its box placed inside a cabinet so it doesn’t really get exposed to light that much. Also, this product is very expensive, which makes me want to get as many uses as I possibly can out of it, even though this is a pretty reckless move. Given my prior experience with this item and all the factors I mentioned, I am only setting a goal of two uses, which I think will be enough to let me know if I can set a higher goal, or if I should even keep using it.

Project Progress

Status as of this update: 1/6 goals reached

As I’ve said, I’m pretty happy with where I am at in this project so far, and I feel pumped that I have reached one goal. It wasn’t a “gimme product” as they say, or an easy goal, but it was still quite easier than most, and reaching the goal is really encouraging, and a good start. I hope I can keep this energy throughout the project, and reach six goals as I initially planned (especially the long term goals).

Do you have a project pan, or any product you’re trying to use up? How is it going so far? In any case, keep at it! I am not the best at this kind of thing, so if even I can get good progress, so can you! See you next update!
