Reading Slump? No…and then Yes

It has been quite a long time since I posted anything related to books or reading, and this might seem like I went into a reading slump. Well, the truth is, at first I really wasn’t in a slump, I was just not yet in a position to post anything about what I was reading…and then I got into a slump.

So let me at least share what is happening with me, reading-wise.

The reason I haven’t been posting anything related to reading, or haven’t updated my book challenges, is because I haven’t finished the book I am currently reading. The said book, is this bad boy right here (I’ve been watching a lot of KathleenLights recently):

Yup, this huge volume is the book I am “currently reading”.

With a mass market paperback for comparison.

Believe me when I say I’ve been reading this for years. I think I bought this in 2015 and started reading it around 2016. It’s now 2018 and I haven’t finished it yet. I would feel bad about it if it weren’t for the fact that the Necronomicon is a collection of short stories, some of which aren’t really that short, so to be fair to me I have actually finished quite a number of stories. And then of course life sometimes gets in the way with reading so that’s another factor, plus the fact that, given the size of this book, sometimes it feels like an effort to even open it, much less hold it for reading for a period of time.

I did stop reading this for a while, because as I’ve said, life got in the way, and due to storage issues it got pushed to the back of my bookcase (the kind where I had to put another book in front of it to save space), and it felt like such a hassle to pull it back out every time I wanna read it. But then sometime this year I really got into it, and had a lot of fun reading the stories in it again. The improved shelving and storage situation definitely helped a lot. Isn’t it interesting how tiny things can affect a person’s reading habits? Is it the same way for you?

And now, on to the slump. Unfortunately, life again is getting somewhat in the way. Last month, as I’ve mentioned in a previous post, I became very busy with work. I am still somewhat busy with it, as work has been coming in and it’s come to a point where I just want to sleep when I’m at home, or at most, do something mindless. It’s easier to go down the rabbit hole of the internet when I just have to stare at my laptop or phone instead of reading a big book, where I have to be somewhat mentally alert so I can absorb the story. It’s sad, but sometimes I am just too tired.

I really want to get back into reading but life has been really hectic and to be honest, I am not at my best these days…suffice it to say that I am in a phase where I am trying to lift myself up from a not so good place. Hopefully in the process of fixing things in my life, I could also fix a time to read.

If you have a similar big book you are currently trying to finish, or are also currently in a reading slump, do tell me in the comments below. Hopefully, next time I post something reading or book related, it’ll be some good news!

    1. I am totally bad at non fiction, I don’t get interested in those too easily, although I am trying to read more of those, as I’m getting older. Plus I like to read to escape, which is why fiction works so well for me.
